Monrovia : Street Market Plan Offered

Share

The Monrovia Downtown Merchants’ Assn. wants to turn its weekly Farmers Market into a street festival, with food, entertainment and craft sales, in addition to farm-fresh produce.

Councilwoman Mary Wilcox, liaison to the merchants, asked the city staff to investigate the impact of such a festival on the city. The merchants’ idea, she said, is to extend the market, currently from 3 to 6 p.m. Fridays, into the evening hours, and to close Myrtle Avenue every Friday night from Olive to Lime avenues and set up booths in the street.

The festival would be based on a similar concept in San Dimas.

The staff agreed to look into the idea and report back to the council.
