PASADENA : Planners Asked to Fund Freeway Improvements

Share

Transportation planners on Wednesday were asked to consider funding improvements to the three-lane, 52-year-old Pasadena Freeway, which has no emergency shoulders and many abrupt on- and off-ramps.

The state’s oldest freeway stretches 10 miles from Arroyo Parkway in Pasadena to the four-level interchange in downtown Los Angeles.

The matter is being considered by the Planning and Mobility Improvement Committee of the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission. Los Angeles City Councilman Richard Alatorre brought up the concerns because the freeway runs through much of his district. In mid-May, the City Council adopted Alatorre’s motion asking the LACTC to include funding for upgrades to the freeway in its 30-year plan of transportation projects.
