Top-seeded Petr Korda of Czechoslovakia advanced to the second round of the rain-plagued Swiss Open tennis tournament at Gstaad, and Andres Gomez of Ecuador sustained an injury that might keep him out of the Olympics.

Gomez, 32, retired in the first set against Thomas Muster of Austria after Gomez slipped on the wet court and sustained torn ligaments in his right ankle. Korda, ranked fifth in the world, defeated Horacio de la Pena of Argentina 4-6, 6-2, 6-0.
