The ‘Night for Sight’ Gala Raises $235,000 for Center

The Center for the Partially Sighted netted more than $235,000 at its June 20 “Night for Sight” gala at the Beverly Hilton. Proceeds will provide services for the visually impaired. Dinner co-chairs were Barbara and Marvin Davis and Mary and Irving Lazar.

Orthopaedic Hospital will receive $25,000 raised June 22 at its annual golf classic at MountainGate Country Club. The event, sponsored by Lowman Club, a support group for the hospital, honored Paul Runyan for his ongoing support. Dan Madden was tournament chair.

The Museum of Contemporary Art will receive the $10,000 net proceeds from the June 27 “The Big Brush Off” party at the Kachina Grill. The extravaganza was hosted by MOCA Contemporaries, a museum support council. Co-chairs were Lisa Shlonsky and Namhee Han. Paul Henry is president of MOCA Contemporaries.

John Muir and Junipero Serra branch libraries will share $30,000 raised at a June 17 fund-raiser hosted by Debbie Allen at Every Picture Tells a Story Gallery. Proceeds will be used to restore the libraries and replenish books destroyed during the Los Angeles riots. The J. Paul Getty Trust has offered a $350,000 matching grant toward the $1 million needed for restoration.

U. S. Committee Sports for Israel raised $225,000 at a June 18 “International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame” gala at the Regent Beverly Wilshire. More than 450 guests honored Joe and Ben Weider. Proceeds will benefit the U. S. Maccabiah Team, a project of the committee.

Arthritis Foundation, San Fernando Valley Branch, raised $16,800 at its All-Star Salute to Secretaries and Administrative Assistants luncheon April 22. Proceeds will provide research and local services for Valley residents. Bank of California Vice President Arthur Tomlinson chaired the event.
