Make U.S. Immigration Policy Fair, Enforceable

Share

Iam absolutely appalled at the sentiments of Harry Bernstein. Talk about immigrant bashing!

Some of his statements: “We must stop enticing them with valuable services that cost us billions of dollars. These enticements include free schooling for their children, free medical care for their mothers when their babies are born here, welfare payments for children and government help in finding jobs. The children of illegal immigrants can even become citizens automatically.”

He also advocates a “counterfeit-proof work authorization card” for “all workers” seeking jobs. When, in reality, only brown-skinned or foreign-looking persons would be required to show such cards when applying for work.

Civil libertarians have maintained repeatedly that such measures would foster discrimination against native-born U.S. citizens.

Would Bernstein be asked to show one of these work authorization cards? Of course not.

Bernstein says “services” to immigrants cost the country “billions of dollars.” But numerous studies suggest that the long-term benefits of immigration greatly exceed any short-term costs to American society.
