Spartacus (AMC Wednesday at 6 and 11:30 p.m.). The Stanley Kubrick-Dalton Trumbo-Kirk Douglas classic spectacular about the Roman slave revolt: an all-star left-wing epic, from Howard Fast’s novel, restored to its original length and splendor.

Big Deal on Madonna Street (Bravo Thursday at 6 p.m. and midnight). One of the great Italian comedies, this classic 1958 “caper” satire, directed by Mario Monicelli, offers a motley band of burglars--including Vittorio Gassmann, Marcello Mastroianni, Renato Salvatori and Toto--messing up in every way imaginable.

Ay, Carmela! (Cinemax Wednesday at 4 p.m.). Director Carlos Saura’s funny, compassionate, highly theatrical version of the hit Spanish play, with Carmen Maura headlining an itinerant acting troupe who, trapped on the wrong side of the Spanish Civil War lines, are forced to put on a fascist variety show.
