German Car Industry Could Lose 200,000 Jobs: Germany’s auto manufacturers will shed up to 200,000 jobs because of slowing economic growth, more international competition and technology advances, an industry official said. Achim Diekmann, managing director of the German Automobile Assn., said car parts suppliers would also be hit. He did not specify in a radio interview with Suedwestfunk when the cutbacks would come. The German car manufacturing industry employs about 780,000, one of the country’s largest industrial sectors.
