BURBANK : Weather Blamed for Low Fair Turnout

Share

The damp weather that was pushed through Southern California over the weekend by Hurricane Darby was to blame for a relatively low turnout at the San Fernando Valley Fair, organizers of the event said Monday.

The fair attracted about 35,000 people during the four days of activities that concluded Sunday, compared to the approximately 50,000 who attended the event last year, said Paulette Kam, a spokeswoman for the event.

Although fair organizers had expected an attendance of about 60,000, they were not disappointed by the lower numbers.

“They were very happy; they felt good about the fair,” Kam said. “Obviously the rain brought our numbers down. But without the rain, they would have met their expectations.”

She said the biggest turnout was Friday night when skies were still relatively clear.

“Saturday started looking good but then it started to get wet,” she said.

The fair this year was held at Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank. In previous years, the event has been held at the Hansen Dam Recreation Area.
