A former top housing official during the Ronald Reagan Administration pleaded not guilty to charges of helping steer millions of dollars worth of federal contracts to favored developers and then lying about it to Congress. Deborah Gore Dean, who was executive assistant to former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Samuel R. Pierce Jr. from 1984 to 1987, is accused of using her job to enrich herself, five consultants and the developers they worked for.
