Microsoft, Apple to Strengthen Ties: Microsoft Corp. announced an agreement to develop software for Apple Computer Inc.’s next-generation personal computer, which Apple is jointly developing with IBM. The two companies also said that they would link a Microsoft software technology to the Macintosh. The technology is Microsoft’s Open Database Connectivity specification, which provides a way for different types of computers to access information. Under the agreement, Cupertino-based Apple will rework a program called Data Access Language so it can link with Microsoft’s Open Database Connectivity specification.
