PASADENA : Rose Bowl Officials Still Plan to Court Rock Groups

Share

Rose Bowl officials say they will still try to sign rock groups to perform in the stadium even though the City Council turned down a proposal to let Guns N’ Roses perform on a Sunday in August after tickets were sold out for a Saturday concert.

Bob Holden, interim general manager of the Rose Bowl, conceded the council was fair in denying the request because there was insufficient time to notify residents of the nearby hills.

Holden, who was contacted Monday by the rock group’s promoter, Avalon Attractions, recommended that the council allow the group to play an additional night on Aug. 23 because the 63,000 tickets for the Aug. 22 show sold out in less than an hour. Officials rejected the request without a vote, even though the extra concert would have netted the city about $250,000.
