Ongoing Events--With summer in full swing, those seeking to get out of the house and into nature will find a vast array of events being offered in the county.

The following is a partial list of weekly programs and where they take place.

Every Wednesday:

* Discovery Walk at the Upper Newport Bay Reserve, 9 a.m. Adults must accompany children, $3 for adults, free for children. Information: (714) 640-6746.

Every Friday:

* Coyote Canyon Family Walk at O’Neill Regional Park in Trabuco Canyon, 9 a.m. During the ranger-led walk through chaparral and coastal sage, participants learn why so many animals call the area home. Walk is free; parking is $2. Information: (714) 858-9365.

* Native Plant Study Program at O’Neill Regional Park, 2:30 p.m. The park’s native-plant specialist teaches about xeriscaping, propagating and planting native species, and other subjects. Program is free; parking is $2. Information: (714) 858-9365.

Every Saturday:

* Walk on the Wild Side at Carbon Canyon Regional Park in Brea, 8:30 a.m. Walk is free; parking is $2. Information: (714) 996-5252.

* Canyon Close-Up at Aliso and Wood Canyons Regional Park, 9 a.m. Ranger-led tour is free. Information: (714) 831-2791.

* Wilderness Walk at Ronald W. Caspers Wilderness Park, 9:30 a.m. The 1 1/2-mile hike takes participants through oak and sycamore woodlands. Open to those 18 years and older. Hike is free; parking is $2. Information: (714) 831-2174.

* Canyon Walk at Whiting Ranch Regional Park, 10 a.m. Ranger leads participants on 1 1/2-mile walk, which is free. Information: (714) 589-4729.

Every Sunday:

* Wilderness Walk at Featherly Regional Park in Anaheim, 10 a.m. A walk in the last wilderness area along the Santa Ana River. Walk is free; parking is $2. Information: (714) 637-0210.
