Hiring Law Upsets Foreigners: Foreign business leaders have urged Taiwan to amend a new law restricting employment of foreign nationals, saying it has unnerved the 100,000 foreigners staying on the prosperous island. In a meeting with Economics Minister Vincent Siew, the leaders said foreign firms fear that the new law will jeopardize their operations in Taiwan and cost many white-collar foreigners their jobs. “Troublesome restrictions on visas and employment approvals for foreign technicians and businessmen have caused some uncertainties,” said Robert Irick, governor of the American Chamber of Commerce on Taiwan.
