FULLERTON : City Officials Endorse Disney Expansion
In a show of support for its neighbor to the south, Fullerton city officials have endorsed Disneyland’s planned $3-billion expansion in Anaheim.
Before Tuesday’s City Council meeting, Mayor Don Bankhead said the project would serve to increase tourism in the area, ultimately benefiting Fullerton businesses.
“Any project of that magnitude would bring a tremendous number of people to the area,” the mayor said.
For months Disney officials have campaigned heavily for local support of the expansion, staging dozens of video presentations for community and government groups throughout the county.
Disney’s plans call for construction of a world’s fair-style theme park called Westcot Center, three new hotels, pedestrian walkways, a 5,000-seat amphitheater and a six-acre lake.
Negotiations are continuing between Anaheim officials and company executives regarding financing for the project and environmental considerations that would come with local construction. The Anaheim City Council is not expected to review the required environmental impact study until late this year.
