Production of the Jeep Wrangler has returned to its birthplace here.

The Wrangler had been away from Toledo since 1985, when former owner American Motors Corp. moved production to Brampton, Ontario.

“It’s back where it belongs,” said Gerald Quinn, a quality control inspector at Chrysler Corp.’s Stickney Avenue plant in north Toledo.

Several hundred workers cheered as plant officials drove the first Wrangler produced in the newly refurbished plant.
