High Life: A Weekly Forum For High School Students : 9 Winners Announced for Essays

At a ceremony earlier this month, the Korea Society, Korean Air, and the Korean Cultural Center of Los Angeles honored the top nine winners of their joint 1992 essay contest on the Koreas.

The contest, which began in March, was offered to encourage American high school students to learn more about Asian countries. The topic for this year’s contest: “My Images of Korea and Koreans.”

The grand prize winner, who will travel to Asia, was Piotr Czarnecki of Sonora High School in La Habra.

Andrew Yoon, a recent graduate of Sunny Hills High in Fullerton, received $1,500 as one of the first-place winners. Second-place winners received $1,000 and third-place winners $500.

Nancy Lee of Irvine High and Trisha Ginsburg of Los Alamitos High were among 10 students named as finalists, and they received the honorable mention prize of a coffee-table book on Korea.

The contest was open to all high school students in California, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Washington.
