From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The Vatican released a document that said homosexuals could legitimately be discriminated against in employment, housing and the adoption of children. But it said the document was not an official directive but a “background resource offering discreet assistance.” The document, leaked excerpts of which were published in the United States last week, forcefully states that “there is no right to homosexuality” and repeats the Vatican’s assertion that “homosexual orientation is an objective disorder.” It was condemned by gay groups and many Catholics. The Roman Catholic Church teaches that homosexual tendencies are not sinful but homosexual behavior is.
