Condom Education Should Focus on Men

Share

The message in the female-targeted videos (“ ‘Condom Etiquette’ and Men,” June 26) is that women are expected to play the role of mommy with male sexual partners, and that it is acceptable for men to behave as indulgent children unaccountable for their actions.

If you consider that women regularly ingest expensive, dangerous chemicals so that men won’t have to endure any minor, albeit safe, discomfort, then it is imperative that men be taught to purchase, use and fit condoms by and for themselves. Condom-education videos targeted only at women are a double standard at its most insidious. According to the numbers, women have historically taken the active role in birth control and safe sex. It’s high time men did too.

If a man is too self-indulgent to be responsible for his own sexuality, then he has no right to endanger the life of another, and he is the one who needs to be educated or be abstinent.
