Steele seems to be under the impression that only those people who hire us and fire us, who lead us and who take care of us are in a position to hurt us.
This is dead wrong. Every member of society matters, whether she be black, white, rich or poor; managers need workers just as workers need managers and hatred between any two groups hurts us all. All forms of racism poison our communities and damage the tenuous bonds of trust that hold our society together.
