Vitesse Semiconductor’s 3rd-Quarter Profit Drops

Vitesse Semiconductor Corp. said its fiscal third-quarter profit fell to $53,000 from $71,000 a year earlier, despite a 58% surge in revenue, to $9.77 million from $6.19 million.

The earnings drop was expected. Vitesse, a semiconductor maker based in Camarillo, had said earlier this month that it might even post a loss for the quarter ended June 30. “The continued softness in the economies of the U. S. and Japan had an impact,” Vitesse said.

For the first nine months of its fiscal year, Vitesse earned $1.17 million, compared to a year-earlier loss of $3.12 million, and its nine-month revenue jumped 66%, to $27.4 million from $16.5 million.
