Perceptronics Inc. said it was named a partner with Hughes Aircraft Co. in developing new “infrared focal plane array” (IRFPA) products for the Pentagon. The products are used in equipment that enables soldiers to see in the dark and through fog and sand.

Perceptronics, a Woodland Hills-based concern that mainly produces tank simulators and other military training equipment, said its initial portion of the IRFPA contract is about $500,000 for one year.

The contract was awarded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. Perceptronics will be working on the project with Hughes’ Santa Barbara Research Center. Hughes is a unit of General Motors Corp.
