COUNTYWIDE : Office Given to Democratic Women

Proving that “sisterhood” can be stronger than bipartisan politics, former Republican congressional candidate Daphne Becker has donated office space to three female Democratic candidates.

“She just made it clear she wants women in office,” said congressional candidate Roz McGrath, one of the three candidates benefiting from Becker’s generosity.

McGrath said Becker has donated office space at 888 West Ventura Blvd. in Camarillo for McGrath’s 37th Assembly race.

“I was totally taken by surprise,” McGrath said of Becker’s offer. “It was a real boost to my campaign.” McGrath said she has already installed a phone in her campaign office.

Becker, who is out of the country, could not be reached for comment Monday.

McGrath said the donated office space will also be shared by campaign workers for U. S. Senate candidate Barbara Boxer and 23rd Congressional candidate Anita Perez Ferguson. Ferguson is challenging incumbent Elton Gallegly, who beat out Becker for the Republican nomination in June.

The public is invited to the office for an open house July 31 from 4 to 6 p.m. to celebrate the official opening.
