SAN GABRIEL VALLEY : Light-Rail Transit Line Under Preliminary Study

Share

Preliminary planning for a light-rail transit line between the western San Gabriel Valley and downtown Los Angeles has been approved by the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission.

A line serving that route is being considered as one element in the commission’s 30-year transportation improvement plan. The route being studied would run generally parallel to the San Bernardino and Pomona freeways.

The LACTC will spend $300,000 for the study and is seeking money from cities interested in being served by the line. Alhambra, Monterey Park, San Gabriel, El Monte, Rosemead, Temple City, Pico Rivera, Montebello, Whittier and South El Monte have been briefed about the study, and most have expressed an interest in participating, said LACTC board member Gerry Hertzberg.
