GENEVA : European Nightmare
A three-day international conference set by the U.N. to begin Wednesday will focus on how to deal with a rising tide of refugees streaming out of the former Yugoslavia and confronting Western Europe with its worst migration crisis in half a century.
Efforts by warring ethnic groups to “ethnically cleanse” areas that they now control have sent the number of refugees surging toward 3 million.
Conference participants will have to address both the immediate aid needs of the displaced masses and the likelihood that the exiled Yugoslavs may never be able to return to their homes.
