SIMI VALLEY : Change in Building Rules to Be Studied

Share

Simi Valley city planners should prepare a report on how to impose new building rules in the Kadota Fig neighborhood, where some residents want a rural lifestyle, while others want more intense development, City Council members decided late Monday.

The council asked for the report, to be presented within six weeks, after listening to mixed comments from residents who raise horses in the area and others who want to build more homes and businesses on their land.

The Kadota Fig area is bounded by Alamo Street on the north, Tapo Canyon Road on the west, Stearns Street on the east and Cochran and Leeds streets on the south. On Monday, the council reviewed the recommendations of an advisory panel that spent a year studying development and traffic in the area.

Council members decided that the portion of Kadota Fig north of the Simi Valley Freeway should retain its rural zoning. But the council instructed city planners to find out how much it would cost and how long it would take to prepare new development rules for the southern section of Kadota Fig.

Also, council members said they will look at several issues raised by Kadota Fig residents, such as the proposed extension of Kadota Street and a request for curbs and gutters on Apricot Road.

“These are the things we’re going to try to take issue by issue and work them out one at a time,” Councilman Bill Davis said.
