Monday night’s 8-7 boxing victory by U.S. light-middleweight Raul Marquez was even closer than was believed at the time.

A computer scoring printout showed that Marquez and Nigerian David Dafiagbon were tied, 7-7, with 20 seconds remaining in the bout.

“Are you kidding, with 20 seconds left?” Marquez said, when he arrived to watch his teammates box at the Joventut Pavilion on Tuesday.

“Well, I got him with a straight left hand at the end of the bout, so that must have been the punch I won it with. But I got him with a lot of body shots before that--they’re just not scoring body shots.”

This a daily roundup of Olympic-related items from reporters in Barcelona from the Los Angeles Times, Newsday, Baltimore Sun and Hartford Courant, all Times-Mirror newspapers.
