California IN BRIEF : SAN DIEGO : Sailor Arrested on Murder Charges
A Navy sailor was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder in a rampage that left two prostitutes dead and another wounded, authorities said. Eric Lockhart, 27, assigned to the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk, was arrested after an officer saw a man who fit the description of the attacker, San Diego Police Lt. John Welter said. Welter said officers recovered a semiautomatic handgun believed to be the murder weapon from under the seat of Lockhart’s car. Lockhart also was charged with possession of a concealed weapon. The prostitutes were slain June 20. Welter said a third woman, who was shot in the leg May 28, was able to give a partial description of her assailant.
