Young Compton rapper DJ Quik may be the next big rap star. His new album, “Way 2 Fonky,” which entered the Billboard pop album chart at No. 10, is getting some mainstream acceptance. Previously he was primarily known in the rap community. For the ninth straight week, “Some Gave All,” by “flash-in-the-pan” Billy Ray Cyrus, is the No. 1 album. Don’t be surprised to see it stay there for a few more weeks. Singer Annie Lennox has re-established herself as a strong commercial artist with “Diva,” which moved up to No. 23 and is over the 500,000 mark in sales. The top of the pop singles chart is Madonna’s playground once again; her “This Used to Be My Playground” is the new No. 1 pop single.

* Guitar god Joe Satriani, who established himself as a major commercial force on his last album, is off to an impressive start with this album of rock intrumentals, which debuted on the pop chart at No. 22.
