U.N. Inspection of Iraqi Records
George Bush’s announcement that Saddam Hussein “caved in” had me going to my big Thesaurus to satisfy my puzzlement over his use of that expression.
First, the Iraqis had ample time to remove whatever records they wished. And sufficient concessions were made to satisfy Hussein’s demands that it had more the appearance of a door being slammed in the face and being opened only when the callers agreed to wipe their feet.
