A county council has awarded $3.1 million in AIDS service contracts, including more than $660,000 to agencies in the San Fernando Valley, Supervisor Ed Edelman’s office announced Tuesday.

Edelman, who helped establish the HIV Health Services Planning Council, which distributed the funds, said he was “particularly pleased that agencies serving the San Fernando Valley will receive significant financial support for their efforts to combat this disease.”

The money comes from the federal government as part of a disaster relief program for areas with the largest number of AIDS cases.
