Share

The start of Mayor Ronald E. Isles’ trial on conflict-of-interest charges was postponed Thursday until Sept. 28.

The trial, previously scheduled for Aug. 10, was changed to accommodate attorney schedules, said Orange County Deputy Dist. Atty. James J. Mulgrew.

Isles is charged with 21 criminal misdemeanor counts of violating state conflict-of-interest laws and failing to disclose millions of dollars in loans and other financial interests. He pleaded not guilty to the charges on July 9.

The trial will be in Municipal Court in Fullerton.

Isles has not yet taken out papers he needs to file by Aug. 7 with the city clerk if he plans to seek reelection to the City Council. Isles said in May that he would run for another four-year term on the council, but did not return calls this week for comment on whether his plans have changed.

Isles was elected to the City Council in 1988 and appointed mayor in December for a one-year term. He also served a previous term on the council from 1980 to 1983.
