A Candidate for Change

This summer, Hillary Clinton watchers have seen her give up her headband for a new bob with side-swept bangs. But the image update isn’t over, says the man behind the scissors. Beverly Hills hair whiz Cristophe created Clinton’s new look and says they have another appointment in August, thanks to Clinton chum and TV-producer Linda Bloodworth-Thomason, who arranged for the two to meet. Cristophe is a beauty consultant for Bloodworth-Thomason TV shows “Evening Shade” and “Designing Women.” “The initial goal was to shift the media focus from Hillary’s headband to Hillary’s face,” he says. He suggested she cut her coarse, wavy hair into a bob with soft layers. Mission accomplished: The headbands went back in the suitcase. And Cristophe was on hand throughout the Democratic convention to make sure they stayed there. “I popped in rollers and combed it. . . . But 15 minutes is all she allows for her hair.” Their next meeting will result in a few subtle changes, including a warmer blond color, Cristophe predicts. But there could be more soon. “If Bill Clinton wins, it will be the first time since Jackie Kennedy that we have had a youthful First Lady,” he says. “That’s when she will become an international beauty image. And there is no doubt she has that potential.”
