Truth About Clinicas Land

Share

I want to inform your readers about what actually took place regarding a request to use Clinicas del Camino Real Inc. property for a temporary tent for the homeless.

My initial conversation with Carol Roberg, executive director of the Ventura County Rescue Mission, was one of concern and compassion for her agency and the people it serves. I expressed to her my will to be of help but that I was under a time deadline and legal responsibility to begin construction on land that is designated to serve as a parking lot. This is not a self-imposed obligation but rather a condition of the construction and use permit that we obtained by the city of Oxnard.

At the time of my conversation with Ms. Roberg, I was scheduled to begin construction of the parking lot within 10 days. The six months that she requested for use of our property was not feasible.

I am confident that those who know the role Clinicas has played in providing health care to the medically underserved residents of Ventura County recognize that we do have an interest in working with those less fortunate. It is sad that all this has come about. Both the Ventura County Rescue Mission and Clinicas del Camino Real, Inc. have a vital and instrumental role in helping those individuals who seek and need our services.
