Plan Reaction Misconstrued

Share

The article (“Critics Attack Farmont Gold Course Report,” July 9), concerning the Farmont environmental impact report, created the misleading impression that a broad cross section of the community opposes the Farmont golf course project. In fact, only one person spoke in opposition to the project at the Ventura River Municipal Advisory Committee last month and this same individual was one of the few persons criticizing the EIR at the recent county hearing.

Adjacent residents of the Rancho Matilija subdivision have stated publicly that their concerns with the development have been met or are in the process of being resolved. The Property Owners Assn. of Ranch Matilija has in fact made it clear in written comments on the EIR that, if properly conditioned, they would not oppose development of the project.

The article also states that there is an “ongoing water dispute” between Farmont and local water districts. On the contrary, the representatives of two of the three water districts testifying at the EIR hearing stated clearly that these water districts were not taking a position opposing the project.

We believe the obvious benefits of the Farmont project are apparent to most Ojai residents. As we have stated repeatedly and publicly, Farmont representatives are willing to meet and discuss our plans and mitigation measures with anyone who feels they will be adversely affected by the project.
