Hindu Temple Proposal
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles is disappointed to hear that the application to build a Hindu temple in Norwalk has been rejected by the Norwalk City Council.
The archdiocese has a very productive and meaningful dialogue with the Hindu community of Southern California where we are exploring common grounds of spirituality, morality and ethics.
The culture of the United States, strongly influenced by European Judeo-Christian work ethic and Western logical pragmatism, has for the most part forgotten its own deep, spiritual heritage. Today the influx of immigrants from Asia has brought Hinduism and its great heritage to these shores. The values of Shanti (peace/tranquility/equilibrium), Ahimsa (practical nonviolence) and Grahasti (family life) are badly needed in this society.
The presence of the temple is not only a witness to the freedom to worship that we as a society enjoy, but also adds to the colorful kaleidoscope that makes our community so rich and wonderful.
