BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Angels to Throw Oldies, Goodies

Share

The Angels are throwing a combination of youth and experience--or age and inexperience--at Kansas City in today’s doubleheader.

The starter in the first game, Bert Blyleven, 41, has 283 major league victories.

The starter in the second, rookie Tim Fortugno, 30, has one.

Luis Polonia, the Angels’ designated hitter since the All-Star break because of an injury to his left hand, expects to be able to return to left field this weekend when the team returns to Anaheim.

He said he isn’t concerned that the team’s success with him at DH--he batted .370 in July and the team went 14-13--might tempt the Angels to keep him there.

“It’s my position, and nobody’s going to take it away from me,” Polonia said of left field. Interim manager John Wathan said Polonia will go back to left field when he is ready, but also said Polonia might occasionally rotate to DH.
