Microsemi Corp.: Hobbled somewhat by military budget cuts and the recession, the Santa Ana maker of custom semiconductor chips reported Tuesday that its earnings fell 42% to $539,000 for the third fiscal quarter ended June 28. Earnings per share were 7 cents, compared to 12 cents per share a year earlier. Revenue for the quarter fell 3% to $19.7 million from $20.4 million a year earlier.

For the nine months ended June 28, the company reported earnings of $1.4 million, or 19 cents per share, compared with $2.6 million, or 34 cents per share, a year earlier.

Revenue for the nine-month period fell slightly, to $59.8 million from $60 million a year earlier.
