AFTER THE RIOTS / NEWS IN BRIEF : Final Aid Application Center to Close; Phone Line Stays Open
The state and federal governments’ last disaster application center--the one at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power office in the Crenshaw district--is scheduled to close at the end of business today.
The centers were established to accept aid applications in the wake of the spring riots.
Applications for most aid programs will be accepted by phone through Aug. 15. The toll-free application line is 1-800-462-9029. It operates Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. For general information, the government disaster hot line is 1-800-525-0321. It operates Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
