Pulitzer May Close Lerner Newspapers Group: Pulitzer Publishing Co. said it plans to close the group of 14 community newspapers in the Chicago area if it doesn’t get a buyer for them in the next two months. Pulitzer, which publishes the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, said the move was being considered because of the erosion of the advertising base for community newspapers over the last several years due to the recession. The group operates 14 weekly newspapers, mainly in northern Chicago and its suburbs. The closing, if it takes place, will occur in early October and eliminate about 150 jobs, the company said.
