‘Maybe 3 Homes’ Give City Fastest Growing Tax Rolls in County
Tiny, tony Bradbury, where assessments grew by 11.3% in 1991, has the fastest-growing tax rolls in Los Angeles County, according to the assessor’s office.
“I’m thrilled to death,” City Manager Dolly Vollaire said. “The homes that are being built are up in the $2-million to $3-million range, so you’re looking maybe at three homes.”
The exclusively residential community is nestled in the foothills in the San Gabriel Valley north of the Foothill Freeway. According to the assessor’s rolls, the city’s real estate, much of it multi-acre horse properties, is worth $138 million.
Although that is small potatoes compared to the City of Los Angeles, valued at a whopping $192.4 billion, it is fairly astounding for a city of 833, with no stores, businesses or other commercial property.
Vollaire said the 1990 Census showed that Bradbury has lost 100 people in the past decade. She is a bit suspicious about the increased valuation--which, if confirmed, will mean more real estate taxes for the city--and says she will wait for notification in writing.
“Until I get those figures and do my own calculations,” Vollaire said, “I’m not counting on any increase.”
