KIDDY KASTLE GLAMOUR PARTIES
After Brittany Smith’s outdoor birthday party got rained out, her mother, Cherie, needed a way to make it up to the disappointed 5-year-old.
Brittany and her mom decided that a Glamour Party at Kiddy Kastle, a children’s hair salon in Cypress, would be the perfect substitute for the party that didn’t pan out.
The shop closed for two hours recently while Brittany and her friends were primped and pampered by Kiddy Kastle owner Gloria Cipri-Kemer, hairstylist Jolynn Hedtke and manicurist Kari Berninzoni. While Brittany’s hair was being curled and fluffed, Heather Sossaman and Nina Sanchez had their tiny nails filed and polished.
Meanwhile, sisters Kristen and Tiffani Gordon and Brittany and Ginger Sossaman thumbed through children’s hairstyle books in search of the perfect new “do.” Each girl got to pick out a custom-made hair bow to match her outfit and a little dab of makeup was applied to everyone’s face. As the guest of honor, Brittany was given a ribbon and tulle fairy veil to wear on her freshly coiffed head.
After cake and punch was served, she gave each of her guests a decorated bag full of goodies. Cipri-Kemer’s son, John Berninzoni, captured the entire event on videotape for Brittany’s parents to keep.
Glamour Parties are Cipri-Kemer’s idea of the best way to teach children that looking one’s best is fun and important. “If kids pick up good grooming habits while they’re young, it stays with them for a lifetime,” she said.
The parties are geared toward the child’s age group and interests. “For little girls, we take a fantasy approach, because they like to play dress-up,” Cipri-Kemer said. “For older children, we play their favorite rock music in the background and give them more of a Hollywood look.”
Glamour Parties are $25 per person, with an eight-person minimum. Each child receives a party hairstyle with custom bow, manicure or pedicure and a light makeup application.
Refreshments and favors are provided for each child and the party is videotaped.
