SIMI VALLEY : City OKs Decrease in Price of Water

Thousands of Simi Valley homeowners will save about $1.40 on their bimonthly water bills as a result of a water rate decrease approved by the City Council.
The council, meeting as the board of directors of Ventura County Waterworks District No. 8, unanimously approved the rate reduction late Monday. About 19,000 homes and businesses in Simi Valley or about 60% of the population receive their water from the agency.
Ronald C. Coons, the city’s public works director, said the water district is passing along a drop in the cost of water purchased from wholesale suppliers.
In July, the attorney general ruled that the Metropolitan Water District had improperly imposed two new fees, Coons said. When the regional supplier eliminated one of the fees, the Calleguas Municipal Water District in Ventura County was able to lower the price of water it sells to Simi Valley’s retail water agency, he said.
As a result, the two-month summer bill for the average local household is expected to drop from $54.56 to $53.16.
