FULLERTON : Accountant to Aid in Drug-Seizure Cases

In their quest to recover the illegal profits of drug dealers, Fullerton police officials will by aided by an accountant who specializes in asset seizure cases.

The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to approve a Police Department contract with accountant Robert Borsuk who has done similar work for cities in Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

“It’s felt by police agencies that a lot of assets go undetected because they don’t have the time or ability to pursue them,” said William Winter, Fullerton’s city manager.

Borsuk will be assigned cases to pursue by the Police Department, Winter said. Borsuk will only be looking into the the finances of people who have already been investigated by the police, he added.

The Police Department is projecting that it will receive $915,000 in asset forfeiture money from convicted drug dealers in fiscal year 1992-93. The previous fiscal year, police recovered $725,000, Winter said.

Borsuk will work on a contingency basis, receiving 25% of any assets that he helps the department to locate.
