Irvine Firm Sells Control: Disease Detection International Ltd., in need of financing since its distributor went bankrupt, sold 46.3% of its common stock, or 5 million shares, to Saliva Research in Dublin, Ireland, and Gibraltar. DDI, which manufactures test kits for disease detection, agreed April 11 to allow Saliva Research to hold a controlling interest in the Irvine company. DDI has developed a speedy test to detect the presence of the HIV virus, which can lead to the deadly AIDS disease, but the company hasn’t been able to raise $500,000 needed to go through the Food and Drug Administration approval process.
