Los Angeles County will pay $1.9 million to two girls who allegedly were sexually abused while in a foster home, under the terms of a court settlement approved this week by the Board of Supervisors.

The girls, who are not related, were 2 and 5 at the time, county officials said. They claimed to have been abused from February, 1984, to January, 1987, by their foster father, who denied the charges.

Both children were removed from the home and examined by a physician, who confirmed that they had been abused, officials said. In the lawsuit, the plaintiffs charged that county Department of Children’s Services employees failed to adequately monitor the home. Supervisors approved the settlement without discussion. Each girl will receive $950,000 to be paid to a trust fund established on her behalf.
