Kuwait Helicopter Crash Kills 2 Marines
U.S. Marines conducting joint maneuvers in Kuwait suffered their first casualties Sunday with the death of a two-man helicopter crew in a crash, the Navy said.
The crewmen, both based at Camp Pendleton, Calif., were Capt. John A. Beving, 28, and 1st Lt. David L. Jones, 30, according to a statement from the camp. Beving’s parents live in Silver Spring, Md., and Jones’ wife lives in Dublin, Ohio, the statement said.
Their AH-1W Cobra helicopter crashed about 2 a.m. at a training site eight miles south of the Kuwaiti-Iraqi border, according to the U.S. Navy’s Central Command office here.
The cause of the crash was still under investigation, but the statement said the Cobra was unarmed and conducting a routine training flight at the time of the accident.
