Here’s What’s Happening: NBC News said Monday it will increase the number of local news cutaways on the “Today” show from one to two per hour, starting Sept. 21. Under the new format, local news breaks will fall at 7:26, 7:56, 8:26 and 8:56 a.m. They currently air at 7:25 a.m. and 8:25 a.m. “Today” executive producer Jeff Zucker called the move “a step forward in the evolution of morning news programming,” recognizing that viewers want local information, as well as national and international news.
