Flap Over ‘Bimbo’ Press Release

Share

The poison pen has now been displaced by the noxious fax, courtesy of Mary Matalin, deputy manager of President Bush’s reelection campaign, as weapon of choice in the 1992 political war.

Bush, occupying the politically strategic “high ground,” called upon Matalin to apologize for her memorandum, which spewed out personal venom against Clinton; but Bush was also quick to assert that he (otherwise) fully supported her. Now, hardly by coincidence, Rep. Robert Dornan (R-Garden Grove) echoes the Matalin invective on the House floor (Aug. 6).

I think we voters should have an answer to this style of politicking. Perhaps we should let those responsible know that we recognize it for what it is. I would voice disgust with their shoddy tactics, and ask the media to provide strong support to this protest--and then get on with looking at the judging the real issues in this campaign.
