How to Bake a Burger

Share

White Castle, the chain that sells tiny (2 1/2-inch) hamburgers, sponsored a cooking contest July 29 for the best recipe using 10 of its burgerettes. The winner was Broccoli Castlerole by Carol Cox of Cincinnati: Place the burgers in a casserole with four packages of cooked, drained frozen broccoli and a medium box of Velveeta, melted. Crush a stack of Ritz crackers with 1/2 stick of butter for topping, bake at 350 degrees 30 minutes. The prize Cox won is a sack of 10 White Castle hamburgers each week for a year.

You can already buy candy and microwave popcorn in videotape rental stores; now the Blockbuster chain is market-testing the idea of selling frozen pizza and frozen yogurt at 100 of its video stores in Texas and Florida. If they could just throw in hot dogs and soft drinks in four sizes (medium, large, extra-large and jumbo), the movie theaters might as well close up shop.
