Rosemead : Trash Fees to Increase 4%
A 4% hike in residential trash fees was approved by the City Council on Tuesday to offset an increase in Los Angeles County dumping rates and to keep pace with inflation, officials said. The new monthly garbage bill for residents will be $8.18, an increase of 33 cents.
The increase is the first allowed under a five-year contract signed last year with Consolidated Disposal. The contract allows the company to request another rate hike next year based on the Consumer Price Index and dumping fees.
Under a proposal to be voted on in September, residents would no longer be allowed to throw out aerosol cans, pesticides, motor oil and paint. The proposal provides that if trash collectors see any hazardous waste, they will not pick up the trash can and instead will leave a red tag explaining the policy.
